“Master Cain, that’s a useless looking slave you have there,” a seller of leather bags called out as they passed. “And I see you’ve already had to wallop him. Eunuchs have no strength.”
Master stopped, and Star squatted at once, wrapping his arm around Master’s leg, leaning his head against Master’s thigh. “It’s a man-dog,” Master told him.
“A Terran man-dog?” The man laughed, the face under his straw hat red from heat. “I think old Kadon sold you a dud. If that’s a man-dog, it’s first generation, which is illegal. Can it speak? It looks far too intelligent to me.”
“Get up,” Master said. Star looked up at him and waited. If Master knew he understood everything at once, he would whip him and sell him as an ordinary slave. By the stern look on Master’s face, and from the beating he’d already had, Star understood that Master Cain was a man who brooked no argument and rained down retribution swiftly.
Master gestured “Up!” Star stood up.
The merchant reached out and grasped Star’s small cock. Angered, Star snarled at the man, who snatched his hand away just as a stinging swat landed on Star’s backside. He howled at the fresh pain. His poor arse was already killing him. He needed to behave himself, at least until it was healed.
“None of that,” Master warned. Star whined and dropped to his knees again, his hair cascading over his shoulders to the sand beneath his knees.
“Maybe it is a man-dog after all,” the merchant nodded. “Looks like the kind that will nip if you don’t discipline it harshly.”
“Oh, I intend to,” Master said. “I must get on my way.” They shook hands and Master clucked at Star who, instead of standing at once, crawled forward a couple of paces. His long hair became trapped under his hands and knees. Caught up in it, Star tumbled forward onto his face before somersaulting onto his back. From that ignominious position he looked up at Master and the merchant who both burst out laughing.
Horrified at the ridiculous spectacle he’d just made of himself, he leapt up and fell into place behind Master, his fair cheeks flushing pink.
Master turned to face him. With one hand he grabbed Star’s chin, tilting it to look at his face. “A man-dog that blushes? I’ve never before had one that felt embarrassment.”
The merchant wagged his finger at Master. “Like I said. I think it’s too intelligent for a man-dog.”
“Mmmm.” Master frowned down at Star, who dropped his chin to his chest. “As long as it’s useful while I’m in the desert, that’s all I care about. I plan to sell it before I leave Arriden, anyway. Come on, pup.”
The extensive, domed Spaceport was one of only three on the planet. Anyone travelling to Arriden arrived at one of them, so they were always busy with travelers, especially tourists. A sign on the glass door read, No pack animals, No man-dogs, No pets.
“Sit,” Master ordered, unhooking the leash from his belt. Star dropped to the ground, looking up into his Master’s handsome face. “Stay.” He gestured with his hand up, palm out.
Star watched the manly swagger of Master’s arse as he walked into the Spaceport and noticed, with pleasure, that Master held the big glass door while an elderly woman walked through first.
He can be kind and thoughtful when he wants to.
His backside resting in the hot sand, Star could see Master through the glass walls of the Spaceport going calmly about his business. Never once did Master look back at Star, which meant that he trusted him to obey. A bubble of pride rose up in his chest making him smile before he could stop himself. Man-dogs did not smile.
